Asma & Burni - Watchdogs of human rights who watch only when it’s right!
Ansar Burni, following that blockbuster press conference with Kashmir Singh, took the pain to walk along with the former spy right up to the Indian border, and would have jogged even to his village, had India allowed. Indian Authorities returned the favour, within a few days, with the tortured dead body of Khalid Mehmood, a cricket fan who went to watch the Pak-India dosti series in 2005, and was imprisoned, tortured, killed in captivity, to be returned and buried.
The irony is that our humanist minister, who was all over our screens in Kashmir Singh’s episode, and proved himself to be a master media manager, was nowhere to be seen either during the reception or the burial of Khalid Mehmood’s body, since that would have been a mega PR disaster, and humans rights only begin where disasters end.
Just as we thought nothing could top this height of hypocrisy, came another bombshell.
Yes, we have another world champion of human rights, who can beat all others of her kind hands down in any table talk, by the name of Asma Jehangir. She is presently in India exchanging smiles and gifts with Narendar Modi, the famous director and sponsor of the Gujrat Hindu-Muslim massacre. Asma also had the opportunity to visit Kashmir, where she kept ABSOLUTELY mum on the human rights situation. Asma explains that she is in India as HR Representative of the UN, thus meeting Modi is her right, receiving gifts an official courtesy, and speaking against HR violations is beyond her mandate.
Would someone remind this second watchdog of human rights of ours, that the same UN once had sent a Representative, Geir Pederson, to Lebanon in the heat of the recent war, who, as soon as he set his feet firm on Lebanon’s soil, blew the whistle on Israel and so loudly that the world was shaken awake right away!

Very thought provoking article. I really appreciate it and you did add alot to my knowledge. I take this opportunity to request you to allow me to add your site to my favourites on my blog page.

Hey Junaid, thanks man.
Together we can try to change things. At least try.

The fact that your article begins with a lie / or pure ignorance, made me loose all interest! Ansar Burney has said again and again that the guy has a SAARC visa - meaning he can travel to any SAARC member country! And it’s the Pakistani foreign office that issues this visa so there is no way they would have denied him.
Then you forget to mention that the Indian authorities informed Pakistan about the death of Khalid Mehmood a day after he died, but our government stayed mummed! only bringing it up an hour after Singh crossed the border. And it was Ansar Burney who made arrangements to bring the body back!
Then the third fact…poor innocent Khalid went to India on a 4 day visa to watch cricket, but stayed there for over a year without realizing that his visa expired… YEAH RIGHT!!! His family didn’t have 1,700 rupees to pay for his kaffan as said by his own brother on Express News, but they had the money to send him to India to watch cricket!?
Ignorant people like you need to do a lot more research on national heros like Ansar Burney before you speak against them again!

Welcome on board Abdul Mirza,
I have made my point and yours is also for all readers to read and be informed. You have the freedom to call me an ignorant even if your are from Burni’s personal PR department. I have no issues in learning from you my dear
Hey cool down man, what for the anger
If my article began with a lie and you lost interest with the first line then what made you read so thoroughly and respond
And thanks again for taking me so seriously. I thought I was just writing for fun and personal satisfaction.
PS: Please let me know where was Ansar Burni when it was time to receive the body of Mehmood.
PPS: And you didnt care to defend Asma
And pyaray Abdul Mirza Saheb,
Here again at another board you are also trying to defend your favorite calling those writers ignorant as well(at least implicitly)

hmmm. Interesting to see the discussion
I have a question too? What happened to Khalid Mehmood is shocking and very very unfortunate and even if he was not an innocent person he doesn’t deserve this sort of treatment. My question is about the Pakistani high commision. This poor guy was languishing in Indian jail for 6 years because he couldn’t produce a valid passport. The usual procedure in these cases is that the country’s embassy issues temporary duplicate papers so that the person is able to go back home. The news of Khalid’s arrest was in the media so the embassy guys must be aware of it. The other surprising aspect is that most international and Pakistani papers haven’t given too much importance to this issue. If you provide the links of the media coverage please post them on your blog. I would like to know. I understand Talat Hussein did a programme on it on Aaj TV. We don’t get it here in India. The human rights group who create a ruckus about the rights of even terrorists are not very vocal on this.Isn’t it surprising?
Welcome to my blog pr3rna,
Yes, the Pakistani High Commission has responsibility to bear. Khalid himself may also be responsible in some way. I am only emphasizing the duality of so-called guardians of human rights:
For news coverage on Khalid Mehmood in the Pakistani media, here are a few links:

sorry for going off crazy. Im one of the well wishers of Ansar Burney and think what he did was actually a very good thing + i was probably in a bad mood lol. I wish I was part of his PR team, I would have done a lot better job of defending him than they did.
And to be honest, as much as I like Ansar Burney, I hate Asma Jahangir that much more. Just as I really like Abdul Sattar Edhi but cant stand Imran Khan lol
Its just that every day in Pakistan all we hear about is politics, terrorism/extremism and problems…it was just really nice to see something different, something good and even that is now being made into something negative (talking about Kashmir Singh release)
And I dont believe a word about this Khalid Mehmood. My argument still stands on him. And yes that was also me on that other place.
PS. sorry if I offended
